About Us

BlackSun Horizon, formed in London, United Kingdom in 2022, is a melodic blackened death metal act with an unmistakably epic sound and intense orchestral cinematic overtones.

BlackSun Horizon released their debut single I, Inferno in March 2022.

The metal outfit is the brainchild of British composer and lyricist Salman Sharif who describes the band as the manifestation of a desire to make modern metal music without compromising on melody. “A vast majority of metal out there lacks the sweeping harmonies, counter-melodies and musical richness that is the staple of cinematic music. Equally, cinematic music, or any genre other than metal for that matter, lacks the fulfilling dose of aggression and tempo only extreme metal can deliver. Combining the two? Now that is music that reaches parts other music can’t reach!” BlackSun Horizon are on a mission to showcase soaring melodies in their unmistakably rich, dense “wall of sound” metal, a juxtaposition aimed at casting the net of metal wide and making extreme metal accessible to even non-metal listeners.

BlackSun Horizon released their inaugural album Who Will Live To Tell The Tale in April 2023.

Finnish vocal maestro Topias Jokipii (Saasta) delivers epic powerhouse vocals that complement the emotional and compositional range of the songs on the album.

British voiceover artist Neill Farkhondeh delivers an unforgettably melancholic spoken word prologue and epilogue on the opening and closing songs of the album.

Who Will Live To Tell The Tale takes the listener on a conceptual journey like no other, as it attempts to tell the story of our universe. The themes and lyrics are metaphorical yet accurately grounded in scientific theory. The combination of big instrumentation, counter-melodies and layered harmonies sets this progressive blackened death metal album apart from most metal albums. Evocative instruments such as the Nordic Tagelharpa, the Irish Uilleann Pipes, the Armenian Duduk and the Slovakian Fujara further add to the rich colour of this distinctive metal album. The album release includes both vocal and instrumental versions of the songs.

"Is BlackSun Horizon a metal band with a heavy cinematic influence, or an orchestral ensemble masquerading as a metal band? Honestly, at this point it's diffcult to separate Jekyll from Hyde!"

As far as musical influences go, BlackSun Horizon describe their sound to have been shaped in equal measure by the blast beats and screaming, chunky guitars of the more recent Nordic black and death metal bands, and by modern film and game score composers such as Ramin Djawadi, Hans Zimmer, James Horner, Thomas Bergersen, Max Richter, Lorne Balfe, Jeremy Soule, to name a few. Having trained in composing for a full orchestra and understanding how the instruments layer and compliment each other for a big, epic sound, many passages in BlackSun Horizon’s music can sound like a climactic film score… but with meaner metal fangs! “At BlackSun Horizon, our music and our sonic footprint is the only identity that matters. We want our music, rather than marketing gimmicks and personalities, to do the talking. And in keeping with this philosophy, we ask for less focus on us individually and more on BlackSun Horizon, the unit that creates the music. In return, we promise to focus all our energy on putting out increasingly epic kick-ass music for you with each new release. After all, for us as musicians and, more importantly, for you the fans, it’s all about the music!”

"Nothing motivates us back into the recording studio more than our friends listening to our music all over the world reaching out online and telling us the music we made rocked their socks off!"
